Furoshiki is an ancient Japanese technique of packing and carrying things using a square piece of cloth. And although the tradition of wearing things in knots made of scarf or canvas existed in other cultures as well, it was in Japan that the idea was brought to aesthetic perfection. Not surprisingly, brands such as Louis Vuitton, Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake began experimenting with furoshiki, turning them into luxury accessories that can be worn instead of a bag, or as a scarf or belt.
